Very good discussion and incredibly depressing. Barbarism is on the march, and there are intellectual cliques, both on the right and left, cheering them on. And our schools are teaching unthought masquerading as thought in favor of wholesale murder and antisemitism. Very scary 1930s vibe, also when the far left and right were contesting for what they thought was the corpse of liberalism. True classical liberals need to stand up and defend democratic norms - especially in our public and private institutions.
Gideon Levy is a problematic activist, not really a journalist. But if you mean is it time to be concerned about lives in Gaza -- it certainly is. It always is. We can't let Hamas turn us into the monsters they want us to be. The question is how to limit harm to civilians while still pursuing the destruction of Hamas, knowing that Hamas intentionally operates from within dense civilain centers. That's why Hamas tries preventing civilians from escaping the war zones: it wants innocent Gazans to die in this conflict.
So good! Agree with Adaam on concerns how to manage the PR from this, with all the support the terrorists got immediately after, it can only get worse even if a line really has been crossed. So genocide is still bad even in the moral desert that is the Middle East...even when good Muslims themselves aren’t coming out strongly against terror..what’s the answer?

Yes. But it sometimes seems like the classical liberalism muscle has atrophied in most Western countries.
Yeah, sadly true. But it’s atrophied before too. It’s not too late for good people to rally against bigots.
Amen.
What about this Gideon Levy guy? Is it really that bad over there? Might not be the right time to even be concerned about that though..

That's what's so painful and terrifying. No idea. Genocide is evidently stomachable when the target is Jews.
